Under the Cloud

Collaborate with Liwei Shen

The project is inspired by the energy restructuring and industrial building transformation initiatives that are taking place in the Greater Bay Area. By raising awareness and engaging citizens on topics like environment, energy, infrastructure, and weather, we hope to spark meaningful conversationsand associations that impact their daily lives.

The installation comprises three distinct components that work seamlessly together to create an immersive and thought-provoking experience for citizens. The first component, a ‘big chimney’, constantly produces an eco-friendly cloud that serves as a subtle reminder of environmental and infrastructure concerns. The cloud creates a local microclimate phenomenon near the ground and reflects the wind direction, climate, and humidity. The second component, a temporary pavilion, offers a communal space that blurs the line between macro infrastructure and inhabitable domesticspace. It provides shade and seating in an active recreational area to reduce the impacts of extreme weather. The third component, an interactive videoscreen, encourages residents to share photos of their daily experiences with infrastructure and promotes education on the topic. We aim to develop and publicize all the videos obtained from this interactive experiment.
