Hide and Seek

2023 Winter
Artist-in-Residency Program in Tsingpu Yangzhou Retreat

The “Fantasy Garden” series finds its origins deeply embedded in the vibrant culture of Yangzhou, China. Drawing inspiration from the intricate tapestry of local walls, gardens, and landscapes, I embark on a journey through themes ranging from the profound essence of hometowns to the ethereal realms of dreams and memories. This exploration, spanning across the majestic landscapes of mountains and rivers to the innocence of childhood, encapsulates the essence of the human experience.

In this series, the fusion of concrete and abstract elements, the interplay between realism and expressionism, paints a vivid tableau where nature and artificiality dance in harmony. By skillfully juxtaposing the intimate realms of personal introspection with the vastness of the external physical environment, the artist presents a contemporary narrative steeped in classical imagery.

Amidst the winter beauty of Yangzhou, China, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the tranquil embrace of Tsingpu Yangzhou Retreat, a masterpiece crafted by the visionary minds of Neri&Hu for my Artist-in-Residency program. It was a time of profound exploration, where I delved into the intriguing prospect of blurring the delineations between canvas and space. I am thrilled to unveil an interactive ‘Hide and Seek,’ seamlessly interwoven amidst the rustic charm of bricks and bamboo, inviting viewers to embark on an immersive journey of discovery.
